Who wouldn’t want to find that all elusive path to “healthy eating made easier?” We sure did and decided to give an online meal delivery company a try just over a week ago. Not going to lie, we couldn’t picture healthy eating arriving in a box. We also wondered whether the cost was worth the convenience and which of these would dictate if we ordered again. However, we forged ahead and ordered three meals for the week. We determined the other days we would buy from the grocery store or would possibly be eating out.
Healthy eating made easy? So far so good!
It was really nice to come home from work and find that our ready to prepare meals had been delivered and were waiting for us. First thought was, “oh no, the food might be too warm because it was waiting for us to pick it up.” Our fears were baseless because the packaging surrounding the food and the ice packs quite sufficiently kept the food cold. Healthy eating made easy? So far so good.
How convenient is that?
Everyone has those crazy busy days when you come home after work and dread deciding what to have for dinner. With our first meal preparation it was so easy. All of the ingredients were right there in our package. The right seasonings, the right measurements, the right produce, the right meat, and the right portion size. Now, how convenient is that?
Convenience is winning
The prep time was minimal and within a half hour we had a delicious and healthy meal ready to serve. For the on-the-go professionals right down to the single person who want healthy eating made easy…this is definitely one way to go. So far, convenience is winning we think.
So, what about the cost?
So, what about the cost of “healthy eating made easy?” Some would say it more expensive than buying at the local grocers. Here is what we learned this week. We had guest over for dinner one night. We celebrated a friend’s birthday and they had a specific menu in mind. It wasn’t a fancy meal and not too complicate so, off we went shopping for ingredients to make the meal. We discovered that one meal cost more than the three meals combined that we had delivered. Again, it was a simple meal. Not but a few days later we were invited to go out to dinner with two very good friends and that meal also cost more than the home delivery meals. So, again it seems that convenience has the upper hand.
Prepared according to our preferences
The key we decided early on was to order only three meals per week. Also, we determined we could specify our likes and dislikes as we ordered the food. We selected specific types of meat and indicated our preference was for low-carb meals. Which, they were able to accommodate and presented us with meals according to our personal choices. It was like entering the drive through and getting the order right for a change.
Variety by ordering only three meals
By keeping our order to just three meals a week we have room to pick something up at the grocery store, go out to eat, dine with friends and family, or even enjoy a bit of left-overs. Some people may not like the idea of leftovers, however, they did make a tasty lunch the next day.
So, what was our first meal? Roast pork, carrots, and green beans, with a nice red berry sauce. All this ready in less than an hour and healthy choices. That was a pleasant surprise to the end of our busy day.
