Photos that could tell stories should never be lost. Several weeks ago, we stopped at an antique shop and came across this photo. It caught our attention because of the expression on the boy’s face. The style of their clothing indicate it is likely from the early part of the twentieth century. The quality of innocence in the picture makes you want to stop and see what the boys are up to.
What’s their name?
There is little information about who they are or where this was taken, but wouldn’t it be interesting to find out. Like, are they brothers or best friends? What’s the boys name? Are they a couple of kids that played around an old alleyway? Were they always running around barefoot? Did they even know they were being photographed? We also wonder who was the photographer?
How did the photo end up in an antique store?
Was this picture for a family photograph, or was it a merely a spontaneous moment caught on film? More importantly, how did it end up in an old faded box at the antique store, in a small town? Oh, the stories this photo could tell; if it had been cared for, documented, and passed onto a relative of some sort. Although, we never would have discovered this photo if they had. However, because we found this photo stuffed in an old box, it means the relatives of these two boys likely have no idea the picture exists.
How many photos do you even have?
So, this brings us to a project that is on the to do list of countless numbers of people. The project? Why, it is none other than to organize, document, and properly store the hundreds of photos we have in our homes. Honestly, how many shoe boxes, bins, drawers, or even photo storage containers do you have piled up in your home? Also, have you ever counted just how many photos you even have? Not only that, but do you even remember what photos you have taken?
“I’m going to organize my photos someday.”
The real question, is whether you have said to yourself, “I’m going to organize my photos someday?” If you have, now is the time to get them out, organize them, and put details on the back. What if you decided today you would get this checked off your list in time to share them with your family at Christmas time? Wouldn’t they just be amazed at your diligence and follow through. Of course, you know they would.
We have to go now, we hear our closet full of photos calling to us.
