“The time for procrastination and delay is over,”Kennedy said.1
Senator Kennedy was calling for sanctions against South Africa when he made this statement in 1986, however, we believe this statement has a direct bearing on the core message of our post today.
Calling for a change
Kennedy was calling for a change, and that’s what we are doing. We believe if you are going to accomplish anything, putting things off can no longer be tolerated. Neither can it be accepted to say, “oh well, it’s just the kind of person I am,” Sounds harsh, but sometimes you need to be more assertive. You need to take a stronger stand for what you want in life.
Focus on doing something with your dreams
Time spent procrastinating has to be recovered. In other words, all your delay tactics need to be replaced by action; even if that action is taken one small step at a time. If you are to achieve your goals, now is the time to focus on “doing” something with your dreams. Take action on that list of things you have been “wishing, wanting, hoping” to do or “would like” to do someday. In fact, “someday,” is a term that must be eliminated from your vocabulary. Your mindset has to change; you need to allow room for affirmations. You need to remind yourself you are going to get things done. Today is the day you start again. Today is the day you commit to finishing what you started.
Tell yourself the time for procrastination is over
It all begins with telling yourself, “the time for procrastination is over.” If you ever want to say, “I finally did it,” everything that has been holding you back has to be rooted out and set aside. Enough is enough, “the time for delay is over.” From here on, if you want to check that thing off your list you need to ignore the fact that you don’t feel like doing anything, and go to work.
Whatever it is, go for it!
Ultimately, it all comes down to whether or not you agree you have put off your dreams long enough. If you do, you need to make a decision. The verb to decide is defined as: “to solve or conclude (a question, controversy, or struggle) by giving victory to one side.” 2 Rather than give victory to inactivity, decide to give it to that part of you that has the courage to finally do something about your dreams. Go on, write that book, start that business. Complete that home improvement project, organize your closets, take that vacation. Whatever it is, go for it!
We’re cheering you on, “Fight, Fight, Fight!”
